2017 Young Australian of the Year Finalist
Tarang Chawla is a 2017 Young Australian of the Year Finalist, recognising his inspirational work to end violence and educate Australia on inclusion, masculinity and equality. Tarang has overcome significant adversity and mental health struggles with resilience, advocating for a better world following the horrific murder of his 23-year old sister Nikita. Tarang brings humanity to statistics, after having the devastating burden of identifying Nikita's body as the first homicide victim in 2015. Tarang founded Not One More Niki, a campaign to end violence against women and he has been awarded the 2017 University of Melbourne Rising Star Award for Alumni. Tarang is an independent advisor guiding government, businesses and NGOs. Tarang is an Ambassador for Victoria Against Violence, White Ribbon, Our Watch, Safe Steps, and InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence and the AFL Multicultural Program. Tarang works with young people to support them to become anti-violence advocates and adopt healthy gender roles. Believing that you can achieve anything you dream possible, Tarang is an engaging author and compelling presenter who brings his multicultural heritage to a heartbreaking topic, empowering communities to action and reminding us of the importance of making the most of every day.
